Steve
and I have been friends since about 1986 when we both met on tour
in Japan; he out with Jeff Beck and Carlos Santana, and I with Ozzy,
but it was only in 1997, after a particularly jovial night in a
decadent bar in Paris that we decided to put our heads together
and write a few songs.
We ended up collaborating on about half the
record, and the result was "LUKE", out on Miramar Records
in the USA and Sony International in the world . It was a real
pleasure and I was delighted and very proud that the material
came out in such a cool way, particularly "BROKEN MACHINE" and "TEARS
OF MY OWN SHAME"; two of my favorite songs that I have ever written.
The next step was to start our tour. Clad in Fabulous
pants, deftely swiped from Alice Cooper, we went to Finland and
from there we worked our way through all of Scandinavia, down through
Europe, playing through Holland, France, Great Britain (home for
me!) Germany and Switzerland over about ten weeks, meeting some
wonderful people along the way. We toured in the same bus; we -
the "Fabulous
Cats", and our mainly British (with the exception of Steve's Tech
who was Canadian) crew, who were all affectionately nicknamed "Reg",
so as to avoid any confusion. They are all worthy of honorable
mention here for a job splendidly done:
RICK BRITTEN - Guitars
COLIN NORFIELD - Sound
RICK GRAHAM - Drums
