Steve Lukather • Edgar Winter • Gary
Ferguson • Phil Soussan
We got together in the summer of 2000 as a result
of Steve and Edgar wanting to work together and do some shows for
fun and out of a mutual admiration for each other. Gary and I had
worked together briefly with Charlie Sexton several years before
and it was wonderful to connect with him again. I was asked to play
with the band through Steve and we planned a European tour that
included appearances at the famed Pori Jazz Festival in Finland
and the North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland. We also played shows
through France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Austria.
At the North Sea Jazz we had the honor of playing
alongside Pat Metheny and at Pori we played with such artists as
Jeff Healey, Doctor John and even Kool and the Gang!
We really had a gret time playing our mixture of
Edgar and Steve's hits a little jazzed up and alternative. The first
shows in paris (at the New Morning jazz club) were a little stressful
because we had only had one rehearsal, but we soon fell into the
groove. I can't think of a better time than driving around on a
tour bus with such a great bunch of guys, playing great music and
having cocktails to the strains of some heavy be-bop and straight
ahead jazz albums on our night time drives. Edgar aptly demonstrated
the "Texas
Tilt" technique, which is totally an "in" joke! Apart from some
little hitches, such as our flight cases not fitting on the
tiny aircraft to Pori, we got through it feeling remarkably
accomplished and successful.
Once again, thanks to our silent
saviors; our road crew who made it all possible:
SONNY ABELARDO
our tour manager
RIK BRITTEN our guitar god
COLIN NORFIELD
our sound man
