PHIL ELECTED TO GOVERNING BOARD OF THE
GRAMMYS -
After the ballot and voting process, Phil was
elected to the Board of the Grammys
- NARAS. "This is a real honor and a great opportunity
to give back something to the community and industry that has
been so good to me..." Phil said after attending his first
NARAS Board meeting and receiving his special minature GRAMMY
lapel pin! "...Everyone is familiar with the awards show
but there are so many other things to be involved in such as Grammy
Camp, Grammy in the Schools and of course MusicCares, that helped
so much with my friend Randy Castillo. I also want to make a personal
target out of helping to change the way on which artists are fairly
compensated for their music over new technologies and distributions.
The first step of this is through the MusicFIRST campaign that
seeks to support artists and explain their fight to receive income
for their perfomances and recordings played over the radio, something
that most countries do but that the USA does NOT do - together
with China, Iran and Rwanda!" Phil quips!
Phil would like to please ask everyone
to at least visit and sign the petition at the MusicFIRST
website It only takes a minute.
LIVE WEBCAST -
Friday after next, being the 30th of March presents
a unique opportunity to see a show that I shall be performing
at KULAK'S WOODSHED
here in the Valley. In case you don't know what they do here -
they have a very small funky kinda "front room" in which
many very talented and eclectic artists perform, either acoustically
or with a skinned down band, and they broadcast a live video webcast
on the internet. You really have to see the quality of this -
it is quite spectacular! This is a great way to see a show without
having to pay for a plane ticket from wherever you happen to be!
Anyway, I shall be performing a few songs off my Vibrate CD helped
out by my dear friend SHANE
FONTAYNE and then we shall be performing some songs off of
his fantastic CD that I am going to attempt to help him out on...
Should be fun as this is something that I have wanted to do for
a long time!
Time and Place:
As I said it will be on Friday March 30th between 8 to 10 pm (Los
Angeles time!) and you can simply direct your browser to :
http://www.kulakswoodshed.com
scroll down the page and click on the link that says "live
webcast" and there you go! You can even send in live emails
with questions, comments or whatever that can be read out.
So grab a few beers and pretend that you are right here in the
beautiful spring weather and enjoy an evening of some terrific
music from Shane, myself and other musicians.
If you have not done so I really encourage you to check out some
of Shane's solo material at his website:
http://www.shanefontayne.com/
His "What Nature Intended" is one of my favorite CDs
of the past couple of years and well worth picking up. There are
clips there and details on how you can purchase a copy.
IF YOU MISS THIS EXCITING EVENT IT WILL BE ARCHIVED ON THE SAME
WEBSITE.
Finally, Kulak's is solely supported by voluntary donations, If
you like the way they support independent music and what you see
there, why not consider making a donation? It would certainly
be appreciated and there are details on their website on how you
can do this.
See you there...

NEW SOLO ALBUM! I have been working since the end of January on
a solo record. Although I have been writing for years for all
of the artists that I have worked with I finally felt ready to
record some songs that I had written for my own record. I had
collected about 20 songs that I thought were in the vein and while
I was still writing it was Steve Lukather who convinced me one
night that I had the record based on what he heard! I narrowed
it down to 12 songs and started recording. The material is varied
between commercial rock-pop and some funk influences. There are
a couple of really cool ballads and many of my influences can
be heard; from Zep and Pink Floyd to Seal and Coldplay! I have
some wonderful musicians guesting and I am singing - it is a completely
vocal album. all the drums were cut by Simon
Phillips or Gregg
Bissonette and guests include Steve
and Trev Lukather, Jeff
Babko, David Paich, Steve Porcaro, Shane
Fontayne and Richie
Kotzen.
The album cover is a spectacular 6 panel Digipack and includes
a 12 page lyric booklet too. Plans are to distribute the record
through the usual internet channels and also on this site. If
you buy it here though it will be personally autographed for you
for a limited time!

PHIL WILL BE APPEARING AT THE SUPERBOWL 2006!
He will be performing in the Lingerie Bowl halftime show in a
star-studded band with Jani Lane, Kerry Kelly, Glen Sobel, Danny
Wagner and Patrick Hansen. Also appearing will be Dennis Rodman
and Jenny McCarthy; be sure and tune in!
Richie Kotzen: NAMM appearance We will be playing
on Fri 21st January 2006 at Tone Merchants, 1521 W. Collins Ave.
Orange, CA 92867. I will also be making NAMM appearances at the
Dean Markley, Tascam and Ernie Ball Music Man booths.
Toto: Recorded a track for Toto as a duet with
the singing group Tokio for Japanese release. This came out great
and I am looking forward to working more with the guys.
Hydra: Part D'Eau This is the second recording
for this great band featuring 5 new songs; One Night Stand, Severed,
The Girl Who Got Away, Alone and Destiny. They are really starting
to create some excitement between their shows and their material.
Please go to www.hydramusic.net
Hydra Featuring Trevor Lukather: Steve's son's
band with Trevor writing singing and playing guitar. Just finished
a 4 track EP which will be going out to shop at this point. Main
tracks recorded at the Steakhouse and the overdubs done at my
facility on HD systems. More details to follow.
Motley Crue: I have been assisting Tim and mixing
some of the 5.1 remix tracks on the upcoming Universal release
of Motley's greatest hits DVD (in surround).
I have been working with Tim Weidner. Tim engineered
and mixed Seal IV and we have been doing a European dance remix
on "Get it Together."
Bronze Records: I have now left Bronze Records
due to conflict over integrity issues as well as the fact that
as house producer I was missing out on some greater opportunities
in favor of having to produce some projects that Bronze signed
that I did not believe in.
James Blundell: The well known Australian country
singer has been signed to our label and I am helping re-invent
him for Bronze Records. I have started writing some new songs
with him in the Petty / Mellencamp vibe. We are hoping to have
finished product by early next year.
Jet 68: Well the Jet 68 album is finished and
is sounding amazing! We got a bit behind schedule due to the passing
away of Randy Castillo and my duties with regard to that. Please
visit their website at Jet
68
Bernard Fowler: Main background singer
for the Stones for many years now approached Steve Lukather and
myself with a view to write and produce his album. We wrote two
songs at first, titled "Reach for the Sky" and "New York Time".
Both songs recorded by myself and were really well received and
are now being shopped for a deal. The album will be very exciting
as there shall be many well known guests coming together to appear
on it. Bernard can be caught weekly with his star studded "Big
Beat Sunday" band appearing at the Mint on a Sunday and The Joint
on a Monday, here in Los Angeles.
City Girls Boys: Features Leslie Sanders,
Matt, Pepper and Dale. I originally recorded an EP for them for
Apollo Records in 1998. Four tracks were licenced to MTV for their
"Undressed" series and picked up a fair bit of interest. After
a line up change I just finished a four track demo of new songs
that is being shopped for a deal right now.
Guest: An English band that I am in the
process of developing for Bronze Records. Belle, the singer, is
in the Melissa Ethridge/Alaniss Morissette style but with a funkier
influence and I am doing a type of atmospheric R & B production.
LA Guns: Finished mastering their "Man In The
Moon" album.
Ball: Featuring Brian Tishy Finished Mastering
Brian's excellent Ball album for Spitfire Records. The album was
produced by Gilby Clarke.
Dokken "Live from the Sun" DVD.
Dokken "Live from the Sun" CD I was asked to
co mix this album recorder by Tom Fletcher for CMC records. The
concert was recorded at the Sun theatre in Anaheim and was transferred
into Pro Tools where it stayed until the end. After, I was asked
to remix the album in 5.1 surround sound for the DVD of the same
concert which I did alone. This proved to be a great success in
the way it came out and I look forward to doing more of these
types of mixes.
